SRA’s board of directors have initiated our new Bay Friendly Neighborhood Award Program, to help neighborhoods become better stewards of the Bay following these steps:
- Work with neighborhoods to establish an expert committee to guide project work to be undertaken in neighborhoods that elect to participate
- Take a Resource Audit to identify key natural resources within participating neighborhoods, such as shorelines, streams, parks and open space yards, forests and trees, etc. Determine the condition of the resources, how the neighborhood affects those resources and what might improve them.
- Help neighborhoods organize a project that will have a positive impact on the Severn River and the Chesapeake Bay, recognizing that each neighborhood has unique attributes, needs and capabilities. Focus on the one project that would have a large positive impact and complete it during the year.
- Establish practical means for measuring the impact of each project.
- At the end of each year, will host an awards event to recognize each participating neighborhood with a Bay Friendly Neighborhood award that they
can post at a neighborhood entrance, and we will select the best projects for annual awards.
Bill Tilghman conceived this exciting project, is its project manager, and would be delighted to hear from those who would like to participate personally, or as a neighborhood, in the Bay Friendly Neighborhood Program. This is a way to have fast and significant impact right where you live.
